2MP/1080p IP Camera MStar MSC313E Sony IMX307 vS IMX291

Sony excels in CMOS image sensor developing and manufacturing, its CMOS image sensors can provide the best imaging performance that can compete any other brands in market. In video surveillance industry, Sony’s Starvis CMOS image sensors are very popular after it’s been firstly introduced in 2015. Since then, many camera manufacturers released starlight IP cameras based on Sony Starvis CMOS image sensors. This year, Sony has released a cost-down version Starvis CMOS image sensor model IMX307, the cost is half of existing well-known Starvis IMX291.

Sony IMX307 inherits the same optical size and maximum effective pixels (which is 1920x1080) with predecessor of IMX291. Both CMOS image sensors can capture high quality and true color reproduction image in the day time. Moreover, both have nearly the same visual performance at dim lighting condition. However, unlike IMX291, Sony IMX307 doesn’t support wide dynamic range (or HDR). One more difference between Sony IMX291 and Sony IMX307, IMX291 supports maximum 120fps frame rate, while IMX307 supports max. 60fps frame rate.

Although IMX307's overall performance is not better than IMX291, but its cost is very competitive, more and more camera manufacturers have already launched new 1080p IP cameras featuring Sony IMX307 CMOS, the price is very attractive to clients who wish to try affordable starlight security cameras. Herein we introduce you MStar solution cameras which is a hardware design combing MStar MSC313E SoC and Sony IMX307 CMOS.
